Essen, Germany : 14 - 16 September 2027
At the EACR, we know that conferences are about more than just hearing the latest research. Our events are well-known for providing excellent opportunities for networking, interaction and discussion. Here are some of the features you can look forward to at Goodbye Flat Biology:
Tuesday 21 September 2027, 14:50-15:20
We know that many of our participants are solo travellers and it can sometimes be a bit difficult to settle into the conference ‘vibe’ after a long day of travelling. We know exactly how that feels after our own travelling experiences so if you fancy meeting up with like-minded people, please meet up by the EACR Conference Banner after grabbing a coffee and a snack. This is not a structured event, just an informal opportunity for you to meet other participants who have travelled solo for a chat.
Tuesday 21 September 2027, 17:00-17:30
Conference participants will be invited to get to know conference speakers and organisers plus other conference attendees in a relaxed atmosphere. Our fun, informal quiz offers conference participants the chance to make new connections on the first evening of the meeting.
Tuesday 21 September 2027, 17:30-18:15
A light buffet will be served for all participants and exhibitors to enjoy on Tuesday evening. Why not take the opportunity to make new connections in an informal setting! The trade exhibition will be open at this time, and Poster Discussion Session 1 will follow at 18:15.
Tuesday 21 September 2027 18:15–19:45
Wednesday 22 September 2027 13:30–15:00
There are two dedicated 90-minute Poster Discussion Sessions in the programme. At these times, the presenters for that session should stand by their posters to discuss their work with other participants and invited speakers. As well as the dedicated sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, there will also be additional poster viewing opportunities each morning from 08.15 where posters can be freely browsed.
Wednesday 22 September 2027 17:30-18:30
Chaired by Scientific Programme Committee member Johanna Ivaska, a panel of our fantastic speakers, Laura Rosenberg, Shannon Turley, & Louis Vermeulen will consider what our models need to do to be useful for clinical translation pipelines. This is at the heart of the meeting - how to move away from flat biology and will allow the conference to come together, rather than only presenting our data, to ask what we should or could be moving towards and how to make sure these represent the patients that need therapies. With plenty of interactivity and opportunities to ask questions, this will be a fantastic opportunity to engage with scientists at the very forefront of their field.
13:00 Tuesday 21 September 2027 | 10:45 Thursday 23 September 2027
Alongside fantastic scientific content, this conference will feature a small industry exhibition held within the poster area. The exhibition is an opportunity for researchers and companies working in fields relevant to the conference topic to connect and network. Visit the stands during the programme breaks and meet friendly product experts to find out how they can help with your current or upcoming projects. Discover which companies will be attending and plan your visits here.
Wednesday 22 September 2027, 19:30 (Optional ticketed event) – ticket price to be confirmed.

Quote from a previous edition of Goodbye Flat Biology:
“The most valuable outcome of attending the conference was the opportunity to meet outstanding scientists and to acquire knowledge that was completely new to me, which has sparked many ideas potentially applicable to my own field of research.
Equally important was the chance to network not only with internationally renowned scientists, but also with fellow young researchers, fostering inspiring discussions and potential collaborations. I believe these experiences will be highly valuable as I pursue my studies and future career with a PhD in basic research.”
