The European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and The Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) are collaborating on a Fellowship to offer an EACR member the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of scientific publishing through a short-term fellowship with the FEBS journal Molecular Oncology.
The winner of this Fellowship will spend 3 months working remotely as part of the Molecular Oncology editorial team, and have the chance to visit the Molecular Oncology Editorial Office in Heidelberg.
The aim of this funding is to provide an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of scientific publishing through a short-term fellowship with the FEBS journal Molecular Oncology. The winner will spend 3 months working remotely as part of the Molecular Oncology editorial team, and have the chance to visit the Molecular Oncology Editorial Office in Heidelberg.
Eligibility: EACR members who have at least 2 years of PhD experience and do not hold a faculty position and/or managerial role are eligible to apply.

Skills to be developed: The Fellowship aims to develop the applicant’s skills in the areas of the editorial process and scientific writing. During the first month of the fellowship, the successful applicant will engage remotely with the Editorial Office team to get familiar with all aspects of publishing, including a first evaluation of new submissions, admin checks on manuscripts, editorial checks on provisionally accepted articles, writing of article highlights for the journal website and the FEBS Network, and assisting Section Editors with finding potential reviewers.
After the second month of their fellowship, the successful applicant can start joining Editorial Status Meetings, and become involved in article commissioning and the developmental editing of Review articles and front-half material. The successful applicant will also have an opportunity to visit the Editorial Office in Heidelberg and exchange in person on all matters pertaining to the daily editorial routine.

Yeliz Yilmaz (Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, Turkey) completed her 3 month fellowship with Molecular Oncology in 2024 and was subsequently offered a job there.
"Throughout my fellowship, I greatly enjoyed being a part of a scientific editorial office... I was fortunate to work with an amazing team where I was treated not like a temporary intern, but like one of their actual staff. Everyone spent time and gave endless effort in helping me improve my skills, this let me feel like I belong there."
