Swiss Bridge Award 2010
Supporting high-quality cancer research projects in Europe
Swiss Bridge is a private foundation associated with the Swiss Cancer League and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), and supports high-quality cancer research in Europe (www.swissbridge.ch). In order to assist junior scientists in the initiation of their independent careers in cancer research, projects from junior investigators* focusing on translational research, i.e. cancer research projects with an impact on clinical practice will be eligible for support. However, grants for clinical trials are beyond the scope of this year’s Swiss Bridge Award.
Junior investigators from academic and cancer research institutions in Europe are invited to submit a note of intent for a new cancer research project on or before March 31st, 2010. The proposals will be screened by an international scientific board. The principal investigators of a shortlist of between 6 and 8 projects will then be invited to submit (by email) a detailed research application by the end of July 2010. Upon peer review and recommendation from the scientific board, up to 3 projects will receive funding amounting to a total support of 500,000 Swiss Francs. The Donors have earmarked at least 50 percent of the funds for Swiss projects.
The note of intent should be no longer than 6 pages (3,000 words) and should include:
- the title of the project
- the name, address and affiliation of the principal investigator
- a support letter from their employer
- the name(s), address(es) and affiliation(s) of the co-applicant(s)
- the project period (max. 3 years)
- the amount of financial support requested
- a summary of the project (1-2 pages)
- a list of up to 12 publications by the principal investigator
- a statement regarding the relevance and potential contribution of the project to cancer control (1-2 pages) and
- a statement demonstrating how the project will add value by bringing basic research and clinical applications together. (1-2 pages)
The note of intent must be transmitted by e-mail on or before March 31st, 2010 to:
