Postdoc for epigenetic analyses in breast carcinogenesis, Division of Toxicology and Cancer Risk Factors, Heidelberg University & DKFZ
Methylation of CpG rich sequences in gene promoter regions increases with increasing stage of malignancy in various human cancers. Consequently, our project aims at the systematic identification and quantification of early epigenetic changes in precursor lesions of human breast cancer as potential biomarkers for early detection and chemoprevention. We are using genomewide and candidate gene approaches to detect novel hypermethylated genes (Brena et al., Nat. Protocols 2006; Raval et al., Cell 2007). The project will involve the establishment of high throughput methods to quantify methylation levels of DNA using MassARRAY technology. In addition, molecular-biological techniques will be used for the functional analysis of identified genes.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced scientist with a Ph.D. in biology or a related area. The candidate should have an excellent track record in molecular and cellular biology. In addition, strong experimental and analytical skills are mandatory. Knowledge in breast cancer pathology is desirable. The project will be performed as collaboration between the Department of Pathology of Heidelberg University and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). The DKFZ is a member in the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers and performs research in the areas of basic and translational cancer biology. We offer an international and dynamic work environment, access to a broad range of continuing education courses and the possibility to contribute to projects at the frontier of cancer research. Severely disabled person receive the preference with same qualification. Equal opportunities are a component of our personnel policy.
The successful applicant can begin as soon as possible and the position is limited until April 30, 2010 with the possibility for extension.
