Abcam Cancer Meeting: Cancer and Metabolism 2013

Topics

  • Introduction to metabolic pathways and metabolism
  • Metabolic alterations and adaptations of cancer cells
  • Identifying and exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities of cancer
  • Metabolic signalling
  • Advanced technologies in cancer and metabolism

Summary

In the past few years the field of cancer metabolism has moved into the spotlight of cancer research and into the heart of the bio-industrial world.

In this workshop we will cover the field of cancer metabolism extensively, and discuss the link between cell signalling and metabolism, as well as metabolic adaptations of cancer cells to autonomous proliferative demands and environmental stresses.

We are bringing together leading researchers in the cancer metabolism field in hopes of generating a vibrant scientific and social atmosphere to allow for informal interactions among participants.

Abcam Cancer Meeting: Ubiquitin and Autophagy 2013

Topics

  • Ubiquitin modification - conjugation, recognition and hydrolysis
  • Ubiquitin and Ubiquitin-like modifiers in selective autophagy
  • Spatio-temporal regulation of ubiquitination and autophagy events

Summary

Ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifiers regulate myriads of cellular processes. In this meeting, we aim to bring together leading researchers from the fields of ubiquitin signaling as well as autophagy, a process that depends on the ubiquitin-like proteins Atg8 and Atg12. It is now clear that many mechanistic aspects and signaling concepts of ubiquitin attachment, recognition and hydrolysis are shared in the autophagy system. More importantly, significant cross-talk exists, as ubiquitination plays a central role in determining cargo for autophagosomal processing. The talks will highlight the most recent developments in the ubiquitin and autophagy arenas, and should stimulate many discussions about where and how the two fields can learn from each other.
